Mind the Gap: the discrepancy between manager and direct report ratings

As part of the 4 Stages research project, we asked managers and direct reports to rate direct reports’ contributions. And what we found was that managers rate their direct reports quite differently than direct reports rate themselves.
The ratings discrepancy has significant impact on employee development programs, job assignments, leadership development and other talent management priorities.
