create an autonomous, energized workforce.

Solution
Novations’ competency-based approach began with an
assessment of the skills and behaviors of the
organization's leaders and individual contributors. A
comprehensive performance management system was created
with a focus on reinforcing brand image, maintaining market
share and fulfilling obligations to shareholders through
effective business performance. The plan started with
fundamental leadership skills for managers to build
leadership bench strength, maximize productivity and foster
their development as autonomous business owners. Subsequent
interventions were implemented at the business unit level,
distribution centers and select home-office environments,
with function-specific learning plans to support the
uniqueness of the business units.
Results
Novations’ approach positioned the leaders to model
the expected behaviors of a performance-centered
organization, and established a common language and a set
of clear expectations and performance measures across the
organization. Measures included revenue growth performance,
reductions in turnover and customer satisfaction. The
partnership and the implementation continue to evolve now
incorporating client-led training, project management
skills and executive coaching, and some custom curriculum.
