Novations TalentDevelopment training helps increase employee engagement and productivity
Industry: Technology
An international technology organization delivered
Novations’ one-day TalentDevelopment program to
thousands of its associates to help them take charge of
their own professional development with the help and
encouragement of their managers. Participants were charged
with creating individual development plans reflecting their
passions, strengths, and weaknesses while at the same time
focusing on company needs.
Critical Issues
Help associates and managers identify opportunities for
growth and skill enhancement.Create a systematic
development process supported by management.Teach employees
to determine career orientation, current and desired levels
of contribution, and logistical development challenges
through self-assessment and feedback from peers and
managers.
Solution
An employee survey identified an organization-wide lack of
career pathing. Participants completed self-assessments
regarding career orientations and personal developmental
challenges and were assessed by their peers and managers.
That data combined with the survey data was used to tailor
Novations’ TalentDevelopment program to meet the
client’s specific business needs. The program was
rolled out to more than 1,200 employees worldwide. The
relevance of the training was heightened by using the
client’s own certified facilitators, rather than
Novations trainers.
Results
Employees and their managers embraced the development
process and reported increased understanding and ownership
of their own development planning as a result of the
training. Several months after their training was
completed, participants were asked to assess how well the
tools and skills were working for them. Eighty-five percent
of the participants agreed or strongly agreed that the
program helped focus their efforts in areas important to
their department. Employees’ confidence in their
level of contribution to the organization increased by
seven percent after the program was rolled out. Some
specific self-reported business results include the
following. One participant reported that the program
enabled him to take the lead in automating the purchase
order process for a specific commodity, thus enhancing
productivity and increasing on-time payments. He estimated
that the new system was saving the company $50,000 per
quarter. Another participant became a group leader and
helped his peers to track and prioritize work, improving
productivity and earning the organization an estimated
additional $25,000 per quarter.
